It’s a weird one out there, guys. Everything that feels intuitive about running the shop during the holidays is different this year. No crowds. No hugs. No up close and personal chats about what to buy your mom. To help keep some of the glow and charm of shopping small in the holidays going, we thought we’d put together a list of things that will make it easier, better, and safer for all of us.
1) SHOP EARLY
Although we say it every year, it really is the truth in 2020. The last few days of the season are notoriously crazy at the shop. So many people, so many sales. That just isn’t possible this year. Each location now has a small customer capacity and we can only pack and ship so many boxes at one time. So, shop now. Our holiday gifts sets are available, we are offering delayed shipping on the website, and our gift wrapping is in full swing.
2) SHOP DURING OFF HOURS
With each shop having customer limits, we will not be able to accommodate our normal weekend crowds. Both locations are open 10am-6pm during the week and Webster Groves is open on Sundays. Come by on your lunch break. Use supporting a small business as a reason to kick out of work an hour early. If more of you visit during off hours, it will leave space for those that can’t come any other time but those peak weekend hours. Plus, if you are the only one in the shop, you will have our undivided attention and gift-selecting magic at your full disposal.
3) SHOP ONLINE
This is a tough one to suggest because so much of what we love about our store is connecting with our neighbors and customers in person, but the truth is, some of y’all have to shop online. It’s the only way to keep everyone safe and our sales where they need to be to keep on keepin’ on. If you are browsing the online store and don’t see what you’re looking for, call/email/DM us. We’re here to help. If you are shipping gifts, have no fear— We will hand write your gift enclosures and make sure the boxes feel special to open.
Don’t forget we are offering delayed shipping. The means you can shop now and select ‘DELAYED HOLIDAY SHIPPING. WILL SHIP DECEMBER 16TH” at check out. Hopefully it’s clear, but that means the box will ship December 16th and arrive just in time (Assuming USPS has got it together ;))
Another hot tip on this front if we may-- It is easier for us if you shop online in the early mornings, evenings, or days we are closed. As we have so many one-of-a-kind pieces, it can be tricky to make sure to snag them off the floor if you buy them online while we are open and people are shopping the same items in store. This is in no way a requirement, just a heads up if possible.
4) SHOP ONLINE AND PICK UP IN-STORE
One silver lining of the pandemic is that our online store is up and running in a very real way. So much of what we have in the shops is available online. If you already know what you’d like to buy, do it online. You can select next business day pick-up at Tower Grove or Webster Groves. We’ll have it ready and waiting for you.
5) BUY GIFT CARDS
We know—It’s kinda lame. The best part about shopping all local all handmade gifts is actually giving that awesome gift to someone you love. But, if all of the COVID rules and online shopping have ya down, please consider buying a gift card instead of shopping elsewhere. It really makes a difference for us.
That’s all folks. We know that it seems like a lot of new rules and ideas, but we promise we are trying to make it as close to what you love about shopping with us as we can. The holiday season is the most important time of year for retail businesses, and not to be a downer, but it can make or break a small shop. We know it’s easy to click a few buttons on Amazon on December 22nd and still have your gifts in time, but just remember, Amazon doesn’t write you long-winded Top 5 lists ;)
Thanks for everything,
Team Union Studio
We know it's a lot of information and perhaps one too many favors to ask, but we trust that everyone will just do their best. We promise...
