"The monastery of Daphni is hidden in a corner just oustide Athens. Traveling to the place via public transportation is an adventure, but all the ehadaches will be well rewarded. The monastery is no longer functioning, but its church- Church of the Dormition- houses some of the finest examples of mosaic art from the Middle Byzantine period (846-1204). Under the dome is Christ Pantocrator ("ruler of all," a common theme in the Byzantine Empire), in which Jesus as God watches and judges the visitors from heaven, On one of the walls, there is The Crucifixion, Jesus as a human being suffering on the Cross. The entire Christian mystery is prepresented under the dome of the Church of Dormition."- Chenyu Cheng
