"Like many of my paintings, this one was painted 'en plein air', outdoors, working directly from life, at the Lincoln Shields Recreation Area just across the Mississippi River from Alton. The area comes to a point that catches all these huge drifting logs and branches. I enjoy working from scenes that are slightly grungy or overlooked like a pile of driftwood or an industrial plant and giving it a chance to be lyrical and interesting when painted."
