"Like many of my paintings, this one was painted 'en plein air', outdoors, working directly from life, at Cliff Cave Park along the Mississippi River. I'm always thinking about capturing how a place *feels* in addition to how it looks. This was such a bright, fresh, summer morning which made an otherwise familiar scene of the old barge on the river feel new and beautiful."
